Team From Toronto vs. Amerks, A Season Series Recap/Playoff Preview

With a 5-1 victory over the 30th place Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, the Rochester Americans clinched a playoff spot for the 44th time in franchise history. All that remained to be determined was who they would play in the best-of-five first round series. If everything went well the Amerks would finish in 6th place in the Western Conference and meet the Grand Rapids Griffins. For this to happen, the Iowa Wild Houston Aeros needed to defeat the Oklahoma City Barons in regulation on Sunday and the Amerks had to win against Hamilton. The Amerks were able to continue their domination of Hamilton and won their game by a score of 4-1. Unfortunately for the Amerks, however, the Barons were able to defeat the Aeros by a score of 3-0. While the Amerks finished with the same amount of points as the Aeros, they lost the first tiebreaker by having fewer regulation wins than the Aeros. As such, the Amerks fell to 7th place and will meet that team from Toronto. The same team that swept them out of the playoffs in the first round last season. Read More…

On Booing

Much has been said about Sabres’ fans booing the team. Plenty of others have already touched on the subject, notably this piece and this piece from our friends over at Black & Blue & Gold. I suppose it’s my turn to weigh in on this subject. After the jump you’ll find my thoughts on booing. Read More…

This Deadline Sabres should “Renovate” not “Rebuild”

When the Sabres dealt veteran defenseman Jordan Leopold to the St. Louis Blues yesterday for draft picks, fans weren’t overwhelmingly surprised. It has been made quite apparent at this trade deadline that Darcy Regier and his Buffalo Sabres are sellers. Regier has said that pretty much every member of the Sabres is available as trade bait with names like Jason Pominville, Drew Stafford and even Ryan Miller crossing the lips of those who spread trade rumors.

Although many fans are excited at the prospect of overhauling a very underwhelming and seemingly apathetic team, I think it’s time we all rein it in just a little bit. I was conversing with Dan Sterlace (@dansterlace) on twitter this morning about the state of the Sabres (mainly Thomas Vanek) and I used a word that I think fits what the Sabres need to do right now: Renovate. (Hit the jump to read more!)

They’ve also scored 7 goals (3 and 4, respectively) in their last two games. Meanwhile, the Amerks have allowed 8 goals and scored only 3 in their last two games. After the jump you’ll find a few noteworthy statistics. Read More…

From Where I Sat: Stars at Amerks, 2/20/2013

Tonight marked the first of two meetings between the league leading Texas Stars and the Rochester Americans. There are quite a few things one could take away from this game. The foremost being that there is a reason why the Stars are first in both the Western Conference and the AHL. The final score was 5-1 Stars, which is entirely indicative of how the game went for the Amerks. After the jump you’ll find The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Read More…

Despite the end of the lockout depriving the Amerks of Cody Hodgson, Marcus Foligno, TJ Brennan, and Joe Finley, the Amerks have been on fire as of late. Will they be able to continue their winning ways? After the jump you’ll find a few notable statistics. Read More…

Game Preview: Phantoms at Amerks, 12/7/2012

Tonight is the third of eight meetings between the Adirondack Phantoms and the Rochester Americans. The Amerks are 1-1-0-0 against the Phantoms this season, and 0-1-0-0 at home. There are many questions coming into this game, but the biggest question is whether or not the Amerks will show up tonight. Which is something that they haven’t done at home in a few weeks. Read More…
